I wanted to express my frustration of the “unwantedness” that I felt with my body being Asian and with full of pimples. All the red dots represents my pimples and yellow covering on my face to express my feeling of being perceived only as a “foreign, Asian” person. I felt the power of transforming the undesirable features of my body (i.e. pimples) into the performance, which gathers positive attention and admiration from the audience.
Fall 2023
“Sexual (Li Da Di)” by Amber
I performed with Angel, a co-leader of Queer People Of Color (QPOC) at that time and also a president of QPOC 2024-2025. I was supposed to dress up as a snake god in Japanese mythology but did not have time nor money so it is a dupe version of it… Anyways, this was my first time releasing my sexual energy in the public space, and IT FELT LIBERATING. I used the fake snake as a prop because I like the sexual connotation of snake in Shunga, a traditional Japanese erotic paintings.
Spring 2024
“Kuchibashi Ni Cherry” by EGO-WRAPPIN’
My theme for this stage was a tired Japanese salary man coming back from work and going on to the cabaret stage. My gender dysphoria lies in the gap between myself wearing skirt uniform and commuting to the high school in contrast with salary men in black suit heading to his work place on the 60th floor of the skyscraper in Tokyo. We were both taking the same train but will never lead the same life. I wanted to intersect my life with those of the salary men on the stage of Drag, projecting my frustration onto the presumed frustration of salary men binded by the expectation on masculinity.
